Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly given his backing to extend Anthony Martial’s contract despite speculation of a rift between the pair.
Martial has had endured a difficult time at Old Trafford since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January and during this period, he has failed to find the back of the net.
As such, he has fallen down the pecking order under Mourinho and he was most-recently left out the matchday squad for the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite this, a recent report claimed that the Frenchman is prepared to sign a fresh five-year contract and The Mirror now suggests Mourinho has no concerns regarding an extension for the attacker.
Martial was expected to play a prominent role for United during the ongoing campaign after Mourinho suggested in pre-season that he could start the season opener versus Leicester City.
However, the manager’s plans were disrupted when the attacker left during pre-season for the birth of his child and his delay in returning infuriated Mourinho, who decided to fine him two weeks wages.
At present, Martial finds himself once more in a position where he needs to win over the manager but he could return to the bench for this weekend’s fixture against Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
