Despite letting Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony leave in the last two transfer windows, Manchester United didn’t sign any replacements.
Therefore, Ruben Amorim has been left with very few wide forward options. Moreover, Amad Diallo has been out injured over the last couple of months.

So, Alejandro Garnacho is the only specialist winger currently available for the Red Devils, but he has been wasteful in front of the goal this season.
Hence, Amorim is prioritising strengthening the attack ahead of next season. Spanish outlet AS’s journalist Eduardo Burgos has reported that United are interested in Villarreal ace, Alejandro Baena, and have already initiated talks to secure his service.
The 23-year-old’s current deal with the Yellow Submarine will run until 2028, and his contract includes a £51m[€60m] release clause.
Burgos says that Man Utd will have to overcome fierce competition to get the deal done, as Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are also in this race.
Los Rojiblancos are even confident to secure his service after opening formal talks with the player’s representatives, but haven’t held any negotiations with Villarreal yet.
Baena predominantly plays as a left-sided forward in Marcelino’s 4-4-2 formation at Estadio de la Cerámica. But he is also comfortable in the No.10 role.
The Spaniard enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, making 22 goal contributions in all competitions. This season, he hasn’t been able to match last campaign’s tally, still he has scored six goals and registered seven assists in La Liga.
Baena was in the Spain squad that won the European Championship last summer and guided his country to win the Gold Medal in the Olympics.
He might be an ideal type of player to play in the left CAM role in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system. Hence, he could be an excellent acquisition for Man Utd. What do you think?
