Having endured a dire campaign this season, Manchester United have already started making moves in the market to bolster the squad early this summer to hand Ruben Amorim a full squad to work with in pre-season.

They want a new No.10 to help Amorim implement his 3-4-2-1 formation and are said to be close to signing Matheus Cunha after opening formal talks with the player’s representatives.

Moreover, the Red Devils want a new center-forward following Rasmus Hojlund’s poor performances this season, while they also want a new midfielder after Casemiro’s disappointing displays in recent campaigns.

Now, Italian outlet, Tutto Atalanta, report that Man Utd have earmarked Atalanta star Mateo Retegui as a serious option to strengthen the frontline and Ederson to reinforce the midfield.

United’s scouts were present to watch the duo in action against AC Milan at San Siro Stadium last Sunday, where the Brazilian scored the solitary goal of the game.

Retegui didn’t score or assist but his overall performance was good. So, Man Utd have already made contact with the duo’s agents to lure them away from Gewiss Stadium.

It has been reported that La Dea want up to £50m to sell Retegui, while they have also slapped a £50m price tag on Ederson’s head and United are ready to match the valuation to hire the Brazilian. Hence, Amorim’s side will have to spend a combined fee of around £100m to purchase the duo.

Atalanta signed Retegui last summer to replace Gianluca Scamacca following his serious knee issue and the former Genoa star has enjoyed a stellar debut campaign this term, scoring 23 Serie A goals. He is the highest scorer in the Italian top flight this campaign.

Ederson, on the other hand, has been a key player for La Dea in recent times and can be considered one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

Have your say – Should Man Utd spend £100m to lure the Atalanta duo?
