Manchester United are reportedly planning to recruit Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid as a replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The France international was tipped for an Old Trafford move last summer before he signed a contract extension with Atleti, who had their transfer embargo withheld by the Court of Arbitration of Sport.
Since then, the Frenchman has remained mum over the speculation, although his recently released book has opened up the ‘possibility‘ of joining United in the future. According to L’Equipe, United are likely to face a three-way tussle with Real Madrid and Barcelona as they plan to revive their interest in the Frenchman – probably at the end of the season.
It is added that Griezman’s arrival will have a direct influence on Mkhitaryan, who was axed from the recent matchday squad against Manchester United. A recent report has suggested that the Armenian is battling for his United career as he is struggling with fatigue which has hampered his performances since October.
Meanwhile, it is suggested that €100 Million star could favour a move to Old Trafford owing to his close friendship with compatriot Paul Pogba while he also has the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of boyhood idol David Beckham to make a name for himself in the Premier League.
With Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford excelling in the wider positions, Griezmann could potentially take up the number 10 position, where Mkhitaryan has failed to impress over the past couple of months.
