Last month, reports in Italy suggested that Manchester United are favorites to hire the services of Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer, however, the latest rumors do not seem positive at all.
In April, La Repubblica published a report and named the Red Devils as the front-runners to sign the Senegalese international, who earns £100,000-a-week with Napoli. The Italian source revealed that the Old Trafford club are ready to offer 85 million euros to secure his signature.
Transfer: Man Utd backed to secure signing of ‘established’ £100million attacker
Moreover, Corriere dello Sport reported that Man United are ready to go crazy to sign the former Genk central defender.
However, recently, La Gazzetta Dello Sport covered a story claiming that now our arch rivals Liverpool are in pole position to sign the African star. Why? Because they would be prepared to offer Croatian center back Dejan Lovren in a player plus cash deal.
The renowned source (GdS) have talked about Man United’s interest and further mentioned that Koulibaly will only be sold if his valuation of 100 million euros is met.
The 28-year-old has made it into the Serie A Team of the Season in the last four campaigns. So, we know he is a world class star. It will be intriguing to see if Liverpool would move for him taking into consideration that they already have a few established central defenders.
Nevertheless, in all fairness, we do not need him. Our defense has largely improved this season after breaking the bank to sign Harry Maguire last year. The England international has formed a solid central defensive partnership with Lindelof and even Bailly has performed well since returning from his knee injury.
Therefore, I would not mind if we do not focus on signing a center back this summer. However, if Liverpool do end up capturing him then they would further strengthen their already brilliant defense.
