Manchester United have been linked with Frenkie de Jong for a long time and the supporters would love the latest reports going on in the media.
According to an exclusive story covered by Jeremy Cross for The Daily Star (press image provided below), Man United have agreed a deal in principle with Barcelona to lure the 25-year-old midfielder.
Transfer: Man Utd have submitted offer to sign £43m-£51m playmaker – Report
The journalist has mentioned that De Jong, who at first did not want to join the Red Devils due to lack of Champions League football, has now agreed to move to Old Trafford.
It is stated that new manager, Erik ten Hag, is close to completing his first signing for Man United by reuniting with De Jong.
The Premier League club are confident that the move will be sealed for a fee worth £70million. The 20-time English champions are prepared to make a £60million initial payment and the remaining £10million in bonuses.
De Jong rose to fame at Ajax under the management of Ten Hag. He helped the Dutch side win the league and the cup double before joining Barcelona in 2019.
Unfortunately, the Netherlands star has never been able to showcase his best qualities at the Nou Camp because veteran, Busquets, has mainly played in his preferred position.
Ten Hag knows all about the qualities of De Jong and can get the best out of him at Old Trafford. This transfer saga has dragged on for far too long but seems that it will end soon with De Jong joining Man United.

I still think that Man United’s transfer business is not efficiently being handled. And this is why the club may not compete for the EPL again. I think man utd’s yearly target should be top four finishing. Even so,with the emergence of Tottenham and Arsenal, that will remain an uphill task. When you factor in Chelsea , liverpool , Man City who are better structured and more efficiently managed and than man utd. Realistically, the Europa league is where Manchester united rightly belongs for now and should do everything possible to retain it because the likes of Westham and Aston Villa will give them a run for their money next season. Man United missed out on Haaland before Dortmund signed him on the same conditions that Man Utd could not accept. Man Utd is set to miss out on Nunez and Liverpool will sign him on the same conditions that man utd will not accept. The talk of player’s preferred team is a lameduck excuse. We all saw how Real Madrid was Mbappe’s preferred team and where he is now. We also saw how things are panning out with De Jong. If Man utd really wanted Nunez they would have gone for him instead of depending on older players in the attack who are slower and injury prone. I wonder who takes decisions for Manchester united. If man Utd want to convince anyone of their seriousness then they should sign Nunez or Christopher Nkunku, you can not be using a donkey to compete with horses in a polo game.
We have to accept the fact that Man United is now used by other clubs as their scout machine.
We do not have money any more.
It’s good for the club to change the ownership by selling this once most decorated giant of Football.
