Manchester United opted to sell Romelu Lukaku last summer and so far, the Red Devils have not replaced the Belgian as yet. Veteran Ighalo (on loan) cannot be considered an adequate replacement.
The Old Trafford outfit must replace the former Chelsea star this summer and they have been backed to secure the signing of a top forward in the form of Harry Kane.
Transfer: Club ready to agree £170,000-a-week terms to secure signing of Man Utd player – Report
Few months back, The Mail reported that Spurs value their superstar striker at £200m. On the other hand, the renowned UK outlet also claimed that the England international is eager to sign for the 20-time English champions.
Now, Paul Merson has urged Man United to sign Kane to replace Martial in the starting XI. The French international has mainly played in the No.9 role under Solskjaer but he is not an out and out striker.
The 52-year-old pundit wrote for Sky Sports:
“I think Manchester United need a centre-forward. I really do. And if they put in a massive bid for Harry Kane, they become massive players next season in the Premier League.”
“Martial is a hot player; when he is hot, he is brilliant. But you don’t win the league on hot and cold. You win the league on consistency, and Harry Kane brings you that, he’s the best striker in the Premier League. He can score out of nothing when things aren’t going well, and United need a natural goalscorer.”
We are still waiting for the next Robin van Persie. The Dutchman was the last striker to score 20+ PL goals for us. In that season (2012-13), we won the league title.
So, Merson is right that we need a clinical finisher to have a strong chance of winning the Premier League. 27-year-old Kane has proved his worth in the country having won two PL Golden Boot awards and has what it takes to improve our strike-force.
Spurs failed to earn a top four place in the Premier League and therefore, the £200,000-a-week forward (The Sun) will not take part in the UEFA Champions League next season if he stays with the north London club.
In your view, should we splash the cash to secure his signing in the summer transfer window?
Martial scored 22 in all competitions and looked a lot better when Bruno came in. But Harry Kane is world class finisher, but we are not going to get Kane and Sancho, I would opt for Sancho, he is young, would give us options on the right and supply more ammunition for Martial, Rashford or Greenwood to convert.
I think kane is the best striker in the premier league now perhaps in Europe. but i dont think united will go for him because of his big market value and you dont put martial or rushford on the bench waiting to sub the untouchable kane. i think utd should buy a striker who can compete with rash and martial.
