Man United close to signing £100million star – Journalist

Darwin Nunez - Benfica and Uruguay forward

Manchester United have been linked with Uruguayan international, Darwin Nunez, for some time and the latest reports are interesting.

According to Dean Jones, Man United are close to signing the star striker from SL Benfica in the summer transfer window.

Transfer:Report – Man United ready to agree £20.5million a year deal to secure signing

The renowned journalist told GiveMeSport:

“One source described this deal to United to me as being ‘extremely close’.

“They consider Atletico Madrid as their main rivals to sign him, from what I hear, but obviously, loads around Europe are looking. If Darwin does move to Old Trafford, it will be a brilliant signing for the Ten Hag era.”

The 22-year-old center forward was the leading goal-scorer in the Primeira Liga last term, he found the net 26 times in just 24 starts.

On the other hand, the former Almeria striker also proved his quality in the UEFA Champions League as he scored 6 times in as many starts.

Recent reports have indicated that the Eagles are demanding an enormous fee of £100million to sell their prized asset in the summer transfer window (The Mirror).

Last term, Cristiano Ronaldo netted 18 times in the Premier League for Man United. The last man to score more than 20 league goals for the Old Trafford outfit is retired Dutch star, Robin van Persie. He scored 26 goals in our last title win.

Therefore, to end the trophy drought, we need a proven quality finisher who would bang goals week in and week out and serve the club in the long run.

In such a scenario, Darwin Nunez would be a quality addition but Man United may have to break their transfer record to secure the signing. Moreover, they must hope that the player would be willing to play in the Europa League next season.
