Erik ten Hag - Manchester United manager

Another day, another report linking Frenkie de Jong with Manchester United, who desperately need to improve their midfield department.

As per an exclusive story covered by The Daily Star Sunday (press image provided below), Man United are ready to agree a deal worth £20.5million a year to secure De Jong this summer.

Transfer: Man Utd told £100million will be accepted for ‘strong’ star – Talks ongoing

The British news source have mentioned that the Red Devils are finding it hard to attract stars because they will not be taking part in the Champions League next season.

Therefore, to convince De Jong, the Old Trafford outfit are prepared to make him their highest-paid player to hire his services from the Catalan giants.

It is reported that Man United are ready to offer him a weekly salary of £395,000-a-week (£20.5million). So, Ten Hag is prepared to more than double his current wages. As per Corriere dello Sport, the 25-year-old earns around 11 million euros a year i.e. £180,000-a-week.

Such a contract offer should really be tempting for De Jong but would he really want to swap Champions League football to feature in the Europa League next season? We shall see.

With Matic and Pogba set to depart, Man Utd need a specialist play breaker and a creative midfielder. The Dutch international can play effectively in the defensive and central midfield roles and excelled under Ten Hag at Ajax.

In your opinion, should United break the bank to sign Frenkie de Jong?

  1. I think he is a good player, however, the weekly wage is too high.
