Man United consider move to sign £35million player – Face competition

Dayot Upamecano

Earlier this month, Sky Sports revealed that Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in signing center back Dayot Upamecano, who has got a release clause of 60 million euros in his contract.

Few hours back, France Football covered a story and claimed that Man Utd consider move to sign the RB Leipzig defender, who could be lured for a fee of 40 million euros (£35million), a cheap alternative to Senegalese international and Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly.

Transfer: Man Utd have made contact to sign star with £88million clause – Report

The youngster has so far featured in 21 league games for the Bundesliga club in the current campaign and helped his team keep 7 clean sheets.

The renowned French outlet have claimed that the 21-year-old center half is a wanted man in the Premier League with clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham interested in securing his signature as well.

So, the competition for hiring his services is very high but the real question is, do United really need to improve their central defense in the summer?

The answer is No. Last summer, the Red Devils broke the bank to make England international Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in the history of the game.

The former Leicester City man has been the leader of our back-line and alongside him, the likes of Lindelof and Bailly have performed well in the current campaign.

We also have Jones and Tuanzebe in the back-up and our defensive record has largely improved as compared to last season.

Therefore, to sum it all up, we really do not need to sign a center back, in fact, we do not need to reinforce our back-line in the summer, especially when other key departments like midfield and offense lack quality and depth.

What do you think? Should Man United sign a defender this summer? Should they splash £35million to sign Dayot Upamecano?
