Man United could agree bargain £36million signing next summer – Face competition

Dayot Upamecano

Jadon Sancho was not the only transfer target that Manchester United failed to sign in the summer transfer window. They were also looking to lure Dayot Upamecano but the Frenchman stayed with Leipzig.

Back in August, ESPN revealed that the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to reinforce his central defense and prioritized the capture of the Les Bleus defender in order to partner him with Harry Maguire.

Transfer: Man Utd could move to finally sign £190,000-a-week star in January – Report

However, the only defender we were able to lure was a left back in the form of Alex Telles, who arrived from Porto on deadline day.

According to the latest reports going on in the media (Sport Bild via Sport Witness), Man United are still interested in Upamecano and they could agree his signing next summer by activating his bargain release clause of 40 million euros (£36million).

The German source have claimed that Liverpool and Manchester City are in the race to sign the 21-year-old as well.

The former RB Salzburg defender is a key member of the Leipzig side that finished third in the Bundesliga and reached the last four of the UEFA Champions League last season.

This term, the German club are currently on top of the league after three fixtures and it must be remembered that United have been drawn with RB Leipzig in the CL. So, it will be intriguing to see how well Upamecano performs against us.

In the past few years, we have lured center halves like Bailly, Lindelof and Maguire, still our defense is not strong. This term, Solskjaer’s men have already conceded 11 goals in 3 PL outings and things have to be improved at the back.

I’d prefer if we move to sign Dayot Upamecano in January but then he could be expensive and the £36million clause would only become active next summer.

  1. Upamecano cost more than the inconsistent English centre Back Maguire, activating his clause is not a big deal, if it possible the club should sign him in January transfer
