According to The Athletic, the Norwegian manager has plans to strengthen the strike-force department and his priority is to lure Erling Haaland.
The famous source have reported that the Old Trafford outfit were eager to sign him in the winter transfer window this year but opted not to agree a release clause with Raiola and the player ended up signing a £130,000-a-week deal with BvB (The Mail).
Haaland’s current contract with the Bundesliga giants will expire in 2024 and in the summer of 2022, the release clause of €75million would become active (The Athletic).
Man United signed Cavani on a one year deal with an option of extension till 2022, so, it is stated that the 20-time English champions could plan to replace the Uruguayan by paying the clause for Haaland.
However, The Athletic further claim that Man United could agree an early deal at a huge fee (i.e. more than the €75million clause) to sign the Norwegian striker if it becomes evident that he is ready to move to Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old center forward is one of the best goal-scorers in the world football at the moment. Last year, he banged 44 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions (for Salzburg and Dortmund) and was the second highest scorer in the Champions League behind Lewandowski.
In the current campaign, so far, in 8 appearances under the guidance of Lucien Favre, the young striker has already directly contributed in 10 goals (7 goals and 3 assists). At the weekend, he scored his 5th goal of the league campaign in the 3-0 victory over Schalke.
As far as his international career is concerned, the former Molde player has netted 6 goals in as many starts thus far for Norway.
At Old Trafford, Martial is not a natural No.9 and he has been in poor form this season. Cavani is a world class striker but he is not a long term fix. Therefore, a clinical proven quality CF should be lured for the future and Erling Haaland perfectly fits the bill.
In your opinion, should Man United move in with an offer to sign the striker in the January transfer window?
To be honest if this pandemic continues there will be no move for Haaland or Sancho. United are down £70m so far and our debt has increased by over £130m. If we don’t get fans back in the grounds and the game on a even keel no one not one single club will have large amounts of money to spend.
