Manchester United have been chasing Frenkie de Jong for weeks and are set to start the new PL campaign without reinforcing the midfield department.

De Jong has made it clear that he does not want to leave Barcelona and Chelsea are pushing to beat Man Utd to his signing.

Therefore, Ten Hag, who is looking to sign a holding midfield player this summer (The Athletic), should look to sign an alternative and in my view, Man Utd have to move in to lure Fabian Ruiz.

The Red Devils have lost their main defensive midfielder, Nemanja Matic, and the most creative midfielder, Paul Pogba this summer. In such a scenario, Ruiz would be a perfect reinforcement.

He is a versatile star who has excelled in both the defensive and central midfield roles for Napoli. The Spanish international can effectively break play and also perform the role of a deep-lying playmaker.

Moreover, as compared to De Jong, the 26-year-old star proved to be much more productive in the attacking third in the 2021-22 campaign.

Last term, the Dutch international scored 3 goals and provided as many assists in 31 league games for Barcelona.

On the other hand, Ruiz found the net 7 times and provided 4 assists in 32 Serie A appearances under the management of Luciano Spalletti.

The La Roja star will be free to leave Napoli upon expiry of his contract next year and recent reports (Manchester Evening News) suggest that he is valued at around £37.6million (45 million euros).

Man United need to stop wasting time by waiting for De Jong and they must immediately reinforce the midfield. In your view, should Ten Hag splash the cash to sign Fabian Ruiz?

  1. You have spoken the mind of majority of united fans. The coach is waiting too much for a play with options even better than him. Do not make a player inevitable in your plan as a coach.
