Manchester United have been linked with Leicester City star Harry Maguire for quite some time and the latest reports are intriguing.
Not so long ago, Mirror Sport reported that the Red Devils valued the former Hull City center back at £60million and opted to exit the race to hire his services after the Foxes demanded a deal worth £100million (initial £90million – plus £10million extra in add-ons) for a player they only signed for £17million in 2017.
However, if the latest reports in the media are anything to go by then the Old Trafford club are back in the hunt to sign the England international.
Transfer: Manchester United ready to move in to sign versatile £50million player
According to multiple media outlets (The Star, Mirror Sport), it has been reported that United have launched a move worth £70million for the 26-year-old defender but The Foxes will likely reject the bid and demand £90million. Another dilemma for United is that the player perhaps prefers a move to The Sky Blues, who can offer him Champions League football in the next campaign (Mirror Sport).
This time around, Mirror Sport claim that the 20-time English champions do not think that Maguire is worth more than the £75million that Liverpool paid to break their transfer record and lure Van Dijk.
The Dutch international transformed Liverpool’s back-line, deservedly won the PFA Player of the Year award and was vital in their Champions League success last term.
Sky Sports News are providing a little different update. They claim that United moved ahead of Man City with a huge bid of £70million but that offer has been rejected by Leicester City, who are looking for a fee in excess of £75million.
Solskajer has already strengthened his defense by signing a right back in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and now the Norwegian manager needs a top central defender, who would be able to command the entire back-line next season.
The transfer saga should be getting quite frustrating for the supporters because there have been several U-turns. Do you think that United should meet Leicester’s asking price to secure the signature of Maguire?
Absolutely not.
Get Ruben Dias & Ibrahima Konaté.
Maguire is a good CB but he not equivalent to VVD and likely not to Koulibaly. I’d be more inclined to try to get the extra quality and go after Koulibaly.
Maguire is a flop. United must not waste their monry on him… He is slow once the ball is past him he cant recover… He proved it in the England game…There are better players than him
… Think twice united… We have had toooo many flops of late….
Would rather as previously stated get rid of Smalling,Jones, young and buy Alderweild for 30 million for 2/3yrs and play him with lifelong than pay way too much for Maguire
Keep ur money in ur pocket MUFC and get a quicker, stronger and a CB who wants to play for the club
Is somebody at Man U smoking pot? Why on earth would they want Maguire when there are many less expensive, younger and way better CBs around. I’m no great fan of Alderweireld either but from an economic viewpoint, look at the disparity in cost. If Man U have money to throw down the gutter, throw it my way. Geez, Louise!
Am a Leicester City big fan .I think Manchester United should leave Gary Maguire behind this window n try again next transfer window . Maguire worth more than 90m he is doing a great job for England national team .and his club Leicester City
He’s an absolute carthorse. 70 quid would make one think twice. I’d rather have a couple of dustbins in front of the keeper
Said it before and I’ll say it again – I wouldn’t have Maguire at half the price.
