Man United more than serious to secure signing of £40million playmaker – Report

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Manchester United are interested in hiring the services of David Brooks.

As per a report revealed by Sport Witness, Man United are more than serious about signing the Welsh international as an alternative for Jadon Sancho.

Transfer: Man Utd plot double offer to sign £72million stars – Report

Yesterday, The Mail also covered a story and claimed that the 23-year-old is on the radar of the Red Devils and Bournemouth are determined to get a fee of £40million from his sale.

The relegated club have already sold Nathan Ake to Manchester City for a huge fee of £41million this summer but in all fairness, the asking price of £40million for Brooks makes little sense.

The former Sheffield United playmaker is a versatile talent. Naturally, he is a right winger but he can effectively play on the left flank and also as a central attacking midfielder if needed.

The 12-capped international scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in the 2018-19 campaign.

However, last season, due to an ankle surgery, he missed majority of the games and was only able to feature in some contests because the campaign had to be suspended for three months due to coronavirus outbreak.

Brooks only made 9 appearances in the 2019-20 Premier League season and scored just a single goal (against Manchester City last month).

Man United already have Mason Greenwood, Daniel James and Juan Mata, who can play on the right wing. In such a scenario, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not need to bring in another winger like Brooks, who would likely be another back-up option.

Therefore, there is no need to spend £40million to lure the playmaker from the Cherries. Instead, a proven quality attacker should be lured to improve the offensive department at Old Trafford.

In your view, is David Brooks good enough to improve Solskjaer’s attack?

  1. David Brooks is very good, just buy him, Koulibaly and Raul Jimenez and United will compete with City and Liverpool next season.
