Man United pressing for months to sign £53million+ playmaker – Face competition

Nicolo Zaniolo Italy vs Armenia

Manchester United have been linked with Italian international Nicolo Zaniolo for quite some time and the latest reports are interesting.

Back in November 2019, Il Messaggero via (Sport Witness) covered a story and stated that the Old Trafford club have held talks with Roma to sign the rising star.

The 20-year-old became a hit in Italy last season and his valuation quickly rose to around 80 million euros last year (Leggo).

Unfortunately, the 20-year-old suffered a major cruciate ligament injury in January and since then he has been on the treatment table.

Before the injury, the young playmaker, who has already played five times for the senior international side (2 goals), scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists in all competitions for the Giallorossi in the current campaign.

As per a recent report covered by Italian outlet Leggo, the likes of Man Utd and Spurs have been pressing for months to sign the Azzurri star. However, Juventus are currently in pole position and Roma would be forced to sell their prized asset if they receive an offer of over 60 million euros (£53million+).

Man United do lack quality and depth in the attacking third but they recently signed a top CAM in the form of Bruno Fernandes. Also, they have got veteran Mata, who can effectively play in the No. 10 role.

So, in my view, the Red Devils really do not need to sign another playmaker who can play in the hole behind the main center forward. However, Zaniolo, a natural CAM, can effectively play on the flanks as well. This season, he mainly excelled as a right winger for the Serie A side.

The Old Trafford outfit signed Daniel James last summer but the Welsh right winger has been highly inconsistent for the club and Solskjaer should replace him with a consistent performer. In your view, should United spend over £53million to sign Nicolo Zaniolo.
