According to Cadena Ser, Man Utd have more than followed up their interest in Maxi Gomez and aim to secure his signing in the summer transfer window.

The Spanish outlet have mentioned that the Red Devils have scouted the Valencia striker on numerous occasions this term and they witnessed his top performance against Barcelona at the weekend.

The 23-year-old scored a goal and provided an assist vs the reigning Spanish champions to help Valencia win 2-0. Earlier in the campaign, he found the net at the Nou Camp but the Catalan giants won that contest 5-2. Overall, the South American star has directly contributed in 10 goals (8 goals and 2 assists) in 13 league starts since joining the La Liga club in the summer.

In the last campaign, Gomez started 33 games and directly contributed in 18 goals (13 goals and 5 assists) for Celta Vigo. He made his senior international debut back in 2017 and so far, he has scored 2 goals in 17 appearances for Uruguay.

Man United have not replaced Lukaku and Sanchez as yet and it must be remembered that their top scorer, Rashford, is out injured and is not expected to return anytime soon.

So, in all fairness, Solskjaer needs to splash the cash and bring a forward this month instead of waiting for the end of the campaign.

Maxi Gomez’s current contract with the Mestalla outfit will expire in 2024 and it has a mammoth release clause (Cadena Ser) of 140 million euros (£118million). In your view, should United wait for the summer to hire his services?
