Manchester United were heavily linked with England international and West Ham United star but they did not sign any midfielder in the summer transfer window.
On the other hand, reports last month have suggested (The Daily Star) that the the Red Devils are put off by the asking price of £90million and are now focusing on luring Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United.
Transfer: Man Utd serious about signing £70,000-a-week play breaker – Report
However, former Hammers defender in the form of Nigel Winterburn, has backed the Old Trafford outfit to sign the 22-year-old star, who would be perfect for the club. The 57-year-old told Paddy Power (via The Metro):
“£90million is a huge amount of money for Declan Rice – it’s crazy money, but it’s a fair valuation”
“I can see him suiting United because they’ve got an abundance of attacking talent but are often caught wide open defensively. He would be the perfect fit. Whether United have got another £90m pounds is another matter.”
Rice was absolutely fantastic for West Ham last season and helped them qualify for the Europa League. On the other hand, the Three Lions star was key member of the England squad that won the silver medal at the European Championships.
In the current campaign, thus far, the 26-capped international has scored 2 goals and provided as many assists in 9 appearances for the Hammers.
Man Utd do need to reinforce things in the center by signing a top defensive midfielder. Should they pay £90million to sign Declan Rice?
90 million quid for Rice is pure insanity as was the 80 million that United paid for Maguire and for sure the 100million that City paid for Grealish. It’s utter madness.
