Manchester United seem serious about signing Ronald Araujo, whose current deal with Barcelona will expire in 18 months.

Reports in the Spanish media indicate that the Old Trafford club can double whatever offer Barca are prepared to put on the table for the defender.

On Sunday, Sport reported that the Red Devils have made contact with the player, who is yet to agree a new deal with the Catalan giants.

The La Liga giants have offered him a five year deal that will make him earn 3 million euros per season. So, the entire worth of the contract is 15 million euros.

Yesterday, Sport covered another story and stated that the Premier League club can double the contract that Barca are offering to the 22-year-old center half. This means that Man Utd can offer Araujo a contract worth 30 million euros (£25.3million) to hire his services.

The Uruguayan international has been a key member of the Barca side under the management of Xavi Hernandez. So far, in 12 league starts this term, he has helped the team keep 5 clean sheets, moreover, he has netted 3 goals as well.

In the last league contest vs reigning La Liga champions, Atletico Madrid, Araujo scored a vital goal to help Barca earn all three points.
