Manchester United want Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona and the Catalans want Bernardo Silva from English champions, Manchester City.
According to a report covered by Sport today (news image provided below), the only way Barca will be able to sign Silva is by selling De Jong to the Red Devils in the summer transfer window.
Transfer: Man Utd willing to agree five-year deal to sign £320,000 a week star – Terms will solve major issue
The well-known Spanish media outlet have mentioned that the 27-year-old wants to move to the Nou Camp for personal reasons and has already told the Sky Blues about his intention to leave.
For Barcelona, the wages of the Portuguese will not be a problem but they cannot afford to pay the high salary of De Jong next season and have been pressing to sell him. They already have an agreement worth £73million with the Old Trafford side (MD).
However, after taking him to the US for pre-season, the Blaugrana are in no rush, they have chosen to stop putting pressure and are hoping the 25-year-old midfielder will agree to leave, even if it is at the end of August.
On the other hand, Man Utd are patient as well and have confirmed they are willing to wait until the closure of the transfer window to secure the Dutch star.
The delay in De Jong’s move to Man Utd will eventually delay Silva’s move to Barca and that can create problems for Man City. The Catalan news source claim that the Cityzens are prepared to let their prized asset join the La Liga side but they will not wait forever for the operation to be completed.
Silva is arguably the most versatile player in the City squad. The former Monaco man can play on either side of the field and through the center in both the midfield and the attack. He directly contributed in 20 goals in all competitions last term and is one of the most skillful players in the Premier League.
Sport state that the Seleccao star is a key player for Pep Guardiola, who will need ample time to find a quality replacement and it will not be easy for the Spanish manager.
