Frenkie de Jong is still with Barcelona even though the Catalan giants have agreed a deal with Manchester United to sell him.
Two days ago, The Mirror reported that the £320,000 a week star is in a stand-off with the Blaugrana over £17million worth of unpaid wages. On the other hand, Ten Hag is ready to wait till the final day of the transfer market to sign his priority target.
Today, Sport (news image provided below) have cited the British source and claimed the Dutch coach is in constant contact with his compatriot as he looks to get the signing done.
The Spanish news source have added that after the postponement of De Jong’s salary due to covid, the midfielder is set to earn a full salary in the coming season.
Barca cannot afford to pay the wages. Therefore, the La Liga giants need him to leave the Nou Camp so that they can meet the allowed salary limit.
Man Utd see the 25-year-old’s deferred salary as excessive but Sport claim that they are willing to agree a five-year deal in which he would recover all the money to be received.
So, the terms United are prepared to offer can solve a major issue. However, will that be enough to convince the player to move to Old Trafford? Only time will tell.
For now, De Jong is with Xavi’s squad in the United States and it will be intriguing to see if the Spanish manager will utilize the Dutch midfielder when Barca will collide against Inter Miami tomorrow.
