Manchester United are looking to sign a central defender in the winter transfer window and Sven Botman has been in the focus lately.

As per a recent report covered by The Sunday World, the Red Devils would battle Liverpool to lure the Netherlands center half this month.

Transfer: £190,000-a-week star eager to secure Man Utd move – Early deal eyed

However, the latest updates indicate that Man Utd do not face any competition from the Reds and are clear to secure the signing.

As per renowned Liverpool based journalist, James Pearce, who works for The Athletic, the Premier League champions have no interest in signing the former Ajax defender despite the fact that at the moment they do not have a fit senior center half.

Botman has formed a strong central defensive partnership with Jose Fonte at Lille and as per Duncan Castles, the veteran Portuguese believes that the Dutch boy is top class.

Fonte has played with some of the best center halves around such as the likes of Pepe and Van Dijk and he thinks that Botman is even better. The Daily Record journalist claims that the Ligue 1 star is tall, ‘quick’ and incredibly strong in one vs one situations. (The Express).

His current contract with the French club will expire in 2025 and reports (Foot Mercato) indicate that he can be lured for a fee of 30 million euros (£27million).

Man Utd have conceded goals on regular basis this term and Solskjaer needs to shore things at the back. They have a great chance to win the Premier League title this season and therefore, Ole must invest to strengthen the defense, which is arguably the weakest area of the squad.

In your view, should Man Utd spend £27million to sign Sven Botman this month?

  1. YES, because we are conceding goals in almost every game, hence the need for a defender
