Man Utd have a big summer coming up where they need to get their recruitment spot on as the last thing they can afford is to follow up the past couple of seasons with another dismal display.

Ruben Amorim will know that a lot is at stake and he has absolutely no margin of error this summer.

News – Arsenal have made shock contact to sign £26m-£34m Man Utd player – Report

The Red Devils are languishing 15th in the Premier League table but their season still has some sort of relevance due to the fact that they are in the semi-finals of the Europa League and have a 3-0 lead from the first leg at Bilbao. All they have to do is play a good second leg and book a place in the finals.

Should they somehow win that trophy, it would hold them in good stead for next season as it would give them Champions League football. In Man Utd’s current predicament, that would be game changing, as the calibre of players that they can attract would be at a much higher level.

Now, as per Give Me Sport, Man Utd are confident of securing the signing of talented Atalanta play-breaker Ederson. The Brazilian defensive midfielder is said to have a price tag of around £50million but the Red Devils think they would be able to wrap up the deal for lesser than that valuation.

Should Man Utd sign Ederson?

Man Utd’s current squad has two players who play in the defensive midfield position – Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro. The former was signed just this season from PSG and his performances thus far have been a mixed bag at best. Meanwhile, the latter has enjoyed an unexpected surge in fortunes in recent weeks.

From almost being an outcast in Ruben Amorim’s plans, Casemiro has turned it around and is now one of the first names on the team sheet.

The ex-Real Madrid star has rolled back the clock with his performances in recent weeks and there is a good chance the Portuguese tactician wants to keep him around for the upcoming season.

If that indeed is the case, then the question arises as to where Ederson fits into Amorim’s team and if there is any need to reinforce the midfield position.

However, it could be that Man Utd don’t want Casemiro’s enormous wages on their books and could choose to sacrifice him and bring in a younger Ederson.

It remains to be seen how the cookie crumbles in this transfer saga. There are a lot of variables in Man Utd’s potential transfer of Ederson and only time will tell if the Atalanta midfield star finds himself in a Red Devils jersey for the upcoming season.
