David de Gea used to be a world class goalie but since the 2018 World Cup, the Spaniard has been average and in turn Manchester United have suffered.
In such scenario, the Red Devils are looking to sign a new shot stopper and the name of Kasper Schmeichel is in the lime light.
According to an exclusive report covered by The Sun, Man Utd consider making a shock move to sign the Leicester City goalie, who is the son of Old Trafford legend Peter Schmeichel.
The renowned British source have mentioned that the 33-year-old star is seen as a ready made option to replace De Gea, who is earning a mammoth salary of £375,000-a-week.
Schmeichel was a key member of the Foxes squad that won the Premier League title under the management of Italian boss Claudio Ranieri back in 2015-16.
The Danish star has consistently performed well for the King Power outfit and in the recently concluded league campaign, he kept 13 clean sheets.
The 53-capped international’s current contract with Leicester will expire in 2023 and he is earning around £120,000-a-week (The Sun).
De Gea’s miserable performance in the FA Cup semi final was the main reason why Solskjaer’s men lost to Chelsea and now, the Red Devils have gone three years without a winning a single domestic trophy.
The Spanish international should be replaced and in my view, instead of signing a veteran shot stopper like Schmeichel, Dean Henderson should be the given the chance at Old Trafford. The English goalie was absolutely brilliant for Sheffield (on loan).
In your view, should Man Utd sign a new goal keeper in the summer? Who should play as the No.1 next season?
