Manchester United’s Paul Pogba was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. However, the French international ended up staying put.
Numerous quality players were linked with the Red Devils to replace the club’s record signing and the latest reports suggests that United considered hiring the services of Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz.
Transfer: Man Utd plotting moves to sign £190,000-a-week winger & £80million star next summer
According to Calcio Mercato, the Spanish international’s market has significantly increased after top performances in the U-21 European Championships and several top clubs have been linked with him.
The renowned Italian source have claimed that Manchester United considered Ruiz as one of the best alternatives for Pogba. Now, the former Real Betis player is in line to extend his contract with the Serie A club.
Ruiz was the Player of the Tournament in the U-21 Euro 2019 and at the moment, his market value (Mundo Deportivo) is close to 60 million euros (£52.9million).
The versatile star can effectively play anywhere in the midfield and his idol is Barcelona legend Xavi.
The 23-year-old directly contributed in 10 goals for Napoli in the last campaign and recently, he had an impressive outing against Liverpool in the Champions League.
If Pogba does end up leaving Old Trafford then I think that Ruiz would be a top quality replacement. Nevertheless, for now, the World Cup winner is with us. We do know that he has got world class quality and if he performs well consistently then United really do not need to sell/replace him.
