According to Don Balon, Manchester United are interested in Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos and could agree a deal for the £200k-per-week German international this summer.
Manager Jose Mourinho could lose up to four midfielders from the first-team at the end of the season and has publicly stated the engine room is a position he will be strengthening in the summer transfer market as a result.
With Michael Carrick retiring, Marouane Fellaini out of contract in a matter of months, Ander Herrera out of favour and linked with AC Milan while Paul Pogba is reportedly unhappy and could move to Real Madrid, United could be very short in the midfield department.
Kroos has been a long-term target for the Red Devils. Don Balon believe he’s ‘very seriously considering’ Mourinho’s proposal to come to Old Trafford. However, Real might not let the 28-year-old leave given Luka Modric is in the eve of his career.
Los Blancos would leave themselves very short if they lost both players in one summer. Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti could be a potential addition to the midfield, but United might struggle landing Kroos’ signature unless a player is lined up to replace the £77.6m star.
