The sale of Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United is more alive than ever as per the latest reports in the Spanish media.
According to story covered by AS today (press image provided below), Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff met with Richard Arnold and John Murtough on lunch to close the transfer of the Dutch midfielder.
Transfer: £50m star hell-bent on securing Man Utd move but Reds are poor negotiators
The meeting confirms that the 25-year-old has been put up for sale by Barcelona contrary to the claims made by president, Laporta, a few days ago.
The Madrid-based outlet have mentioned that De Jong is extremely angry and upset with Barca and Xavi Hernandez for their lack of faith in him.
He had just returned for training and before meeting his teammates, the Dutch midfielder knew that the manager has given the green light to sell him.
De Jong is not prepared to cut his salary to stay at the Nou Camp and the Spanish news source report that Man Utd will have to accept each and every request of the player to take him to Old Trafford.
As far as the fee is concerned, the figure repeated these days is 80 million euros (£67.5million) and it is not confirmed how much Man Utd will pay as a fixed amount.
AS claim that Bernardo Silva wants to move to Barcelona but for now, the Catalan club are solely focusing on selling De Jong and the deal could be closed definitively in the next few hours.
Chelsea did appear in the race but only as an outsider. The updates should delight the United faithful. Let’s hope we can get the signing done today.
