Transfer: Man United committed to sign £55million star next summer – Face competition

According to Record, Man Utd have sights on signing Portuguese starlet Nuno Mendes, who has got a release clause of 45 million euros (£40million) in his contract (expiry 2025).

The famous outlet have mentioned that the Liga Nos side want to hold on to their prized asset and are already in discussions to agree an even bigger clause of 70 million euros to ward off interest from the Old Trafford outfit.

The 18-year-old player can effectively play as a left back and also on the left side of the midfield. He broke into the first team after the football resumed in June and since then, he has regularly started for the Portuguese giants.

In the current campaign, Mendes has so far featured in 9 games and helped his side keep 5 clean sheets. Moreover, he has provided an assist as well. At the moment, Sporting are leading the Primeira Liga after winning 6 of their 7 league fixtures.

If the youngster continues to perform well then it will not come as any surprise to see him in the senior national side.

At Old Trafford, first choice left back Luke Shaw has suffered a hamstring injury and he is out for a month (BBC). The England international has been highly injury prone and in all fairness, we should replace him.

On the other hand, new signing Alex Telles has missed the last few games after contracting Coronavirus and therefore, in the current circumstances, United should lure another left back to strengthen the position.

In your view, should Man Utd push to sign Nuno Mendes in the winter transfer window?
