Manchester United failed to beat Liverpool at Old Trafford yesterday and are still struggling in the bottom half of the table, 15 points behind the league leaders.
The Red Devils sorted their back-line in the summer transfer window but up-front, they let Lukaku and Sanchez leave without replacing them. Therefore, Solskjaer is now looking to strengthen the attack in the winter transfer window and a German international is in the lime light.
Transfer: Report – Manchester United have offered over £26million for defender
According to an exclusive story covered by The Express, the Norwegian manager has stepped up his interest in luring the RB Leipzig center forward, who has been linked with European Champions Liverpool for quite some time.
The British source have mentioned that Man Utd are eager to sign the Kaiser to improve their strike-force but they could be forced to wait by the Bundesliga club, who would want their prized asset to stay until the summer.
The 23-year-old striker was in top form for the German side last season. He featured in 37 games in all competitions, scored 19 goals and also provided 10 assists.
As far as the current campaign is concerned, Werner has appeared in 11 games so far and directly contributed in 9 goals (8 goals and 1 assist). On Match Day 3, he scored a fantastic hat-trick against current league leaders Borussia Monchengladbach. Also, he netted a brace to earn all three points for Leipzig in their opening Champions League group game away from home vs Benfica.
Werner is the natural goal-scorer that we are missing at the moment and as per reports, he has got a very low release clause of £27million in his contract (Football Insider).
In my view, the main concern for Man Utd is that they cannot offer him Champions League football this season and based on current form, they will likely fail to book their place in the next season’s competition as well. Liverpool on the other hand do not have such issues and they have a German coach to attract Werner.
