Ever since Erik ten Hag took over Manchester United, the signings that he has made for the team have largely belonged to two major buckets – past players at Ajax that he has worked with or Dutch players who have been impressing on the world stage.
Of course, there has been exceptions to the rule like Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to name a few but this is a pattern that can be observed in many other signings.
Transfer – Liverpool ready to beat Man Utd to sign £35million player – Report
One of the biggest Dutch talents in the world at the moment is Jeremie Frimpong.
Manchester United have been interested in the 23-year-old for quite some time now. The Red Devils were linked with a move for him previously but that did not happen and he has continued to impress for Bayer Leverkusen.
Now, as per Caught Offside, Man Utd are expected to make a move to finally sign Jeremie Frimpong, who has an affordable £34m clause in his contract.
Considering the familiar contingent that he has at Old Trafford, the Oranje star might be tempted to accept this transfer.
That said, the 23-year-old Dutch international is currently playing for a Champions League team. Moving to Manchester United would deny him the chance to play in that competition, at least for the current campaign and their record over the past few years has been hit and miss.
Man Utd are no stranger to signing a former Manchester City academy graduate. The last time they did that with Jadon Sancho, it did not work out as expected but the Red Devils will hope things work out differently with Frimpong.
It remains to be seen how the record English champions go about their pursuit of the 23-year-old. He will be an excellent addition to any team and let’s wait and see if Man Utd can get this over the line.
