Manchester United have been linked with retired Croatian international Mario Mandzukic for quite some time and the latest reports suggest that the Red Devils are close to reaching an agreement to hire his services.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Man Utd have almost finalized a deal to sign the veteran center forward from Juventus. It is mentioned that United want Matuidi but the Old Lady are prepared to offer Emre Can and Mandzukic in their hope to sign Pogba.
Transfer: Man Utd ready to sign ‘outstanding’ £190,000-a-week star by meeting demands – Report
Tutto Sport have recently claimed that Sevilla has been interested in signing the 33-year-old striker but he is not excited about the idea of moving to Seville and instead, he is likely to say Yes to Man United.
Similarly, another Italian source in the form of Calcio Mercato have stated that Man Utd are Mandzukic’s favorite destination.
So, if reports in the Italian media are anything to go by then the Old Trafford club could end up securing the signing of the highly decorated star to strengthen their strike-force in January. As far as the price tag is concerned, last month, The Mail claimed that the Italian champions are looking to get £11million from his sale.
I’m glad that Martial is now fit and Rashford has also started performing well lately, still, we do lack quality, depth and experience up front especially after selling Romelu Lukaku, who was our leading goalscorer last season and has already netted 7 goals in 9 Serie A starts for Inter Milan this term.
Luring Mandzukic may seem like a shot term fix but his experience would help our current crop of strikers in the long run.
The former Bayern Munich star has not played for even a single minute under the management of new Juve boss, Maurizio Sarri. Hopefully, he’d hit the ground running in England if he does end up moving to Man Utd.
I have commented so many times in this story and the ridiculousness of this move. Mandzukic is a short term fix. I don’t see what he can offer us for the money he will be paid. We have Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and I am sure there is another player or two within the youths who could surprise us if given the chance. Players a lot younger and cheaper with moch be prospects than a 33 year old cast off
