Manchester United got absolutely trashed by Newcastle United last night in the Premier League with the Red Devils succumbing to a 4-1 defeat on the night. Ruben Amorim’s side looked completely out of sorts in the game against the Magpies and Eddie Howe’s team proved to be extremely clinical.
It’s been a while since Amorim took over at Old Trafford but the results since then have been appalling. Anytime the Portuguese tactician seems to be showing some kind of progress with his team, it proves to be a false dawn and there seems to be no bottom to this never-ending pit that Man Utd are falling through.

Despite the poor performances, Amorim will know that he will only start being evaluated once he has had a proper transfer window and pre-season behind him. Making transfers is extremely essential come the summer and it must be said that it won’t be easy unless the club actually makes some funds available for him.
Now, as per Quotidiano Sport, having already lured Hojlund and Diallo from La Dea, Man Utd have a direct path to secure the signature of talented Atalanta midfielder Ederson who could be crucial to bolstering the defensive midfield position at the club.
The report mentions that a fee of around £51.9million would be sufficient to secure this signing. Juventus are also interested in the Serie A star but the Red Devils have the advantage as of now.
Man Utd currently have Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte as options to play in this role. The former is on the wrong side of his 30s and doesn’t seem to have much legs left to play at the top most level whereas the latter was a summer signing who has still not come into his own at Old Trafford, at least, until now.
Perfect Casemiro successor?
Casemiro has been one of the greatest players in his position during his generation but it seems like his time at the top is slowly coming to an end. Now, replacing him with yet another Brazilian who seems to be a proper successor for the ex-Real Madrid star would be the perfect option for Man Utd.
Ugarte is still very young and Man Utd are likely to persist with him going forward but signing Ederson could provide him with some much needed competition. Sometimes, quality and depth in a position could be all that players need to showcase their best level and this would make sense.
Ederson is an expert play-breaker who is very good at winning the ball back in midfield. His quality has been visible for Atalanta over the years and he seems to be getting even better with every passing season. It would make a lot of sense for the Red Devils to sign him.
Let’s wait and see if Man Utd prioritize signing a defensive midfielder this summer and if they are willing to pay the £51.9million to secure his signature. Only time will tell how it plays out and if Ederson will wear a Red Devils jersey in the near future.
