Goal-scoring has been a huge issue for Manchester United, netting only 38 times in 32 Premier League games this season.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are the two strikers for the Red Devils but they have scored only six goals combined. Like the No.9s, the wingers haven’t been able to showcase their productivity this season.
News – Man Utd set to hold talks to sign £37.5million defender – Report
Amad Diallo was United’s best wide forward. But, since the African’s injury absence, Ruben Amorim hasn’t been able to find a proper replacement for him within the squad.
Therefore, The Athletic state that the Portuguese boss is willing to strengthen the centre-forward and the No.10 position this summer and have identified Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha as serious targets.
Man Utd want to blend the squad with youth and experience properly and considering Cunha will turn 26 this summer, they want to sign him as they believe he will be able to make an impact instantly.
The Brazilian, who currently earns around £150,000-a-week in salary, has a 62.5m release clause and Wolves want the money to be paid in full to let him leave. But, they may even accept it in installments.
The Red Devils want to fund this transfer by selling on loan stars like Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia as they have been in financial difficulties at the moment.
The report say other than Man Utd, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal previously expressed their interest in signing the South American, while Wolves want to resolve their star man’s future as early as possible.
Cunha has been in excellent form at Molineux Stadium since the beginning of last campaign, scoring 26 goals and registering 11 assists in 53 starts in the league.
He plays in a similar system to Amorim’s at Wolves and would be a perfect No.10 in the United boss’ 3-4-2-1 system. What do you think?
