Man Utd have made contact to sign £105,000-a-week midfielder this summer – Report

Idrissa Gueye Senegal

Last year, Manchester United were interested in signing Idrissa Gueye from Everton (L’Equipe), however, Paris Saint-Germain won the race and hired the services of the Senegalese international.

If the latest reports in the media are anything to go by then Man Utd have made contact to finally sign the midfielder this summer.

Transfer: Solskjaer seriously wants to sign £40.5million player for Man United – Face competition

According to an exclusive report covered by Le10Sport, the Ligue 1 champions are looking to strengthen their midfield and for that, they are even ready to sell players from the current midfield. In such a scenario, it is stated that Gueye, who wants to stay, could leave in the summer.

The renowned French outlet have mentioned that Man United have made contact for the African star but the Red Devils have not made any concrete action as yet.

The 30-year-old star is naturally a defensive midfielder, who can effectively play in the central midfield as well. In the 2019-20 league campaign, he regularly started for PSG and impressed big time.

In his first 6 Ligue 1 appearances and first 3 Champions League appearances, Paris Saint-Germain won without even conceding a single goal. The French side were awarded the league title in April and they are still active in the Europe’s elite competition.

At Old Trafford, Man United do lack a strong holding midfield player in the squad. Matic is the main play breaker but the Serbian veteran is past his best and should be replaced.

Idrissa Gueye played over 100 games for the Toffees and the 64-capped international has got the quality to improve Solskjaer’s midfield. However, he is going to turn 31 in September and therefore, luring him might be a short term fix.

Man Utd have mainly focused on youngsters under the Norwegian boss and should look to sign a DM, who would be able to serve the club in the long run.

Gueye’s contract with PSG will expire in 2023 and as per L’Equipe, he earns around 500,000 euros a month (£105,000-a-week). In your view, should United move to sign him?
