Man Utd have to secure signing of £58.7million midfielder in January

De Jong and De Ligt - Netherlands

Manchester United are already out of the title race and the focus should be to earn Champions League qualification for next season and to build a team that can compete with the best next term.

Ralf Rangnick must reinforce the squad in this transfer window. A number of top players have been linked and in my view, Man Utd have to secure the signing of Frenkie de Jong.

Transfer: Man Utd send strong offer to finally sign £320,000-a-week star – Report

It is baffling that the Red Devils have ignored the midfield department for years and that is one of the main reasons they have been unable to challenge the likes of Man City and Liverpool.

Fred was the last central midfielder that the club lured and the Brazilian was brought by Mourinho when he was in charge in 2018. Since then, the Old Trafford outfit have only strengthened other areas.

The likes of Fred and McTominay are not good enough to win us the title and record signing Paul Pogba, who has been inconsistent and injury prone, is expected to leave in the summer upon expiry of his contract. On the other hand, we do not have anyone who can play effectively as a deep lying playmaker. Chelsea have Jorginho, Man City have Rodri and Liverpool have Fabinho.

Therefore, things must be reinforced in the center of the park and a versatile star like Frenkie de Jong, who can play anywhere in the center of the park, must be lured in the January transfer window.

Reports have suggested that the Dutch international’s future is up in the air at the Nou Camp and Man Utd are interested in signing him. He could be lured for a fee (El Nacional) of 70 million euros (£58.7million).

De Jong has proved to have the qualities required to win midfield battles. Back in 2018-19, he helped Ajax dominate against European giants like Juventus and Real Madrid in the Champions League. The 24-year-old has not had a great campaign this term but that has been the case with the entire Barca side who are going through a crisis at the moment.

In your view, should Man Utd offer £58.7million to sign the Netherlands midfielder in January?
