Man United have to secure signing of £60million creative star

Nicolo Barella Italy

Manchester United have not strengthened their central midfield since the summer of 2018 and it is time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign a top creative player.

Recently, reports (Calcio Mercato) have indicated that the Red Devils are interested in signing Italian international, Nicolo Barella but Inter Milan are determined to hold on to their prized asset. In our view, Man Utd have to secure the signing of the Azzurri man.

In the last two seasons, the likes of Fred and McTominay have mainly started in the center of the park under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and in all fairness, the duo have not been consistent.

Back in May, Old Trafford legend, Roy Keane, claimed that with Fred and McTominay in the midfield, United will not be able to win any big trophies (Sky Sports). Similarly, last month, another ex PL player in the form of Jamie O’Hara also stated that with those two around, the 20-time English champions will never win the Premier League (MEN).

He backed the club to sign a world-class CM and right now, there aren’t many midfielders better than Barella, who won the Serie A title with the Nerazzurri and the European Championships with the national side.

Man Utd need a creative star to dominate the midfield battles and the 24-year-old Italian is a complete player. He is a top passer, who likes to press. He can break play and makes late runs in the box to score/create vital goals. Last season, he directly contributed in 12 goals in the title-winning campaign under the management of Antonio Conte.

On the other hand, Fred only managed to score a single goal (no assist) and McTominay directly contributed in just 5 goals in the Premier League.

At the Euros, the 29-capped Azzurri star scored a goal and provided two assists under Roberto Mancini. So far, our 19-capped Brazilian and 26-capped Scotsman have not managed to score a single goal for their respective senior national sides.

The former Cagliari player’s current contract with the Serie A champions will expire in 2024 and as per La Repubblica, an offer of 70 million euros (£60million) might be enough to hire his services this summer.

Have your say – Should Man Utd spend £60million to secure the signing of Nicolo Barella? If not, who should Solskjaer sign to improve the midfield at Old Trafford?
