Manchester United are struggling under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season and they need to step up big time to get their campaign back on track.
The Red Devils need to sign quality players and if reports in the media are anything to go by then they are linked with a South American forward in the form of Maxi Gomez.
Transfer: Man Utd prepared to triple salary to secure £80million signing of attacker next summer
According to Calcio Mercato, Manchester United and Liverpool are assiduously following the striker, who has a huge release clause of 140 million euros (£120.7million) in his contract with Valencia.
The Italian outlet have stated that the Uruguayan international is in top form since completing his summer move from Celta Vigo and he has scored a goal on every 2.4 attempts per game.
Last season, in 33 league starts, Gomez netted 13 goals and provided 5 assists for Celta Vigo. This season, so far, he has made 11 appearances in the La Liga for Valencia and netted 5 goals. It must be noted that he has only started 7 times in the league this season.
As far as the Champions League is concerned, he has so far played 257 minutes in three starts but has not been able to open his account as yet. He did provide an assist against Lille on Match Day 4.
As far as his international career is concerned, Gomez was part of Uruguay’s World Cup squad last year and made two appearances in the competition.
In the presence of world class forwards like Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez, Gomez has mainly warmed the bench with the national side. In his 16 appearances, he has only started on 4 occasions (substituted 12 times) and netted two goals.
At Old Trafford, Man Utd lack quality and depth in the strike-force after selling Romelu Lukaku, who was the club’s leading goalscorer last season and is in great form for Inter Milan this term.
In your view, is Maxi Gomez good enough to replace the Belgian international at Manchester United?
