His current contract in Lisbon will expire in 2028 and it contains a release clause of 120 million euros.
Benfica want to agree a new deal with Neves that will not only increase his salary but also raise the release clause to 150 million euros.
For now, the 19-year-old midfielder is taking home wages worth 600,000 per season i.e. around £518,000 a year and surely deserves a bumper pay rise.
O Jogo claim currently, Man Utd are leading the race to seal the signing of Neves but top clubs like Liverpool, NUFC, European champions, Man City, and Spanish champions, Barca, are also looking to hire his services.
Benfica, like United, are at the bottom of their Champions League group. The Eagles are already eliminated from the competition and Ten Hag’s men are on the brink of elimination.
Man Utd need to beat German champions, Bayern Munich, to have any chance of progressing to the next round.
Nevertheless, the Red Devils desperately need reinforcements and a player like Joao Neves would has the quality to serve the club in the long run.
