Man Utd like £43million CB, make contact to finally sign him – Face competition

Koulibaly and Skriniar

Manchester United’s interest in Kalidou Koulibaly is very old and once again, the Senegalese is wanted at Old Trafford as Solskjaer looks to reinforce his defense.

The Red Devils wanted to hire his services in 2019 but back then, Napoli demanded a huge fee of 120 million euros for the African star (La Gazzetta Dello Sport).

Last year, GdS (via Paisley Gates) once again talked about Man Utd’s interest in the former Genk center back and at that time, the Naples based side were demanding 100 million euros from the sale of their prized asset. No one matched the asking price and Koulibaly did not leave.

Things could finally change this time around and the player might even end up leaving for a very cheap price.

On Tuesday, La Gazzetta Dello Sport covered a story and stated that the 29-year-old might be allowed to leave the Serie A side to cut the wage bill. The likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City and Barcelona like him a lot and he could leave for a fee between 50-60 million euros.

Yesterday, the famous Italian source covered another story (via Sport Witness) on the subject and stated that the Old Trafford outfit have made contact and requested to finally sign the Serie A CB this summer.

However, it is once again stated that Ole would face competition from the likes of Manchester City and Barca, who have also inquired about securing the signature of Koulibaly. The Senegal CB who would cost at least 50 million euros (£43million).

Lately, Man Utd’s backline has been solid in the presence of Maguire and Lindelof and Bailly has penned a new deal. Do you think Ole still needs to reinforce the central defense and should move to sign Kalidou Koulibaly?

  1. We’ll £43m or thereabouts isn’t a prohibitive sum, particularly for a player in Koulibaly’s class.

He’d come straight in and enable 1 DM to be used, freeing up a place for a third AM or forward, which would improve the team.

He seems quite a loyal chap and may be persuaded by Real, Barcelona or PSG or could choose to stay in Italy, as he’d also improve Juventus, new champions Inter or even Roma, as Mourinho will definitely be interested.

City have so many CBs and Liverpool have already shown their hand, so if he chooses the Premiership, we should stand a good chance.

The problem from United’s perspective is their priorities and their available budget. Is it a CB, a forward, Jadon Sancho, an AM or a DM (my choice)?

I’d take him over Pau Torres or Kounde, simply because he’s available as we’d get a brilliant CB for at least 3 seasons.

So, looking at the team’s NEEDS, let’s start with a budget of £80m, we’d need to sell De Gea – £40m from PSG (or swap with Atletico and pay the £25m difference for Jan Oblak), Matic, Dalot (£40m from Roma), Jones (anyone, please £10m), Lingard (Villa and pay the £40m difference for Grealish), keep Pogba, Cavani & van de Beek and have between £87m (Sancho’s price) or £22m + Oblak.

As Haaland unlikely to move this summer, keeping Cavani would help tremendously and Rashford would be like a new signing if we can get him playing pain-free.

So, it’s a toss up between Oblak & Sancho, which Sancho probably wins and we need to sell to fund the £40m-£50m to get a Denis Zakaria, Franck Kessie, Eduardo Camavinga, Ruben Neves or Boubakary Soumare (DM) instead of the overpriced Hammer option, and conclude what would be the best United transfer window of all time (Koulibaly, Grealish, Sancho + class DM), and then put all our eggs in the Haaland basket next summer.
