Man Utd make contact to steal signing of £35.5million star – Report

Thiago Spanish midfielder

Liverpool have mainly been linked with Thiago Alcantara but latest reports going on in the media suggest that the Red Devils could move to steal the signing of the Spanish international.

Norwegian journalist Filtvedt revealed that the Old Trafford outfit are interested in hiring the services of the Bayern Munich midfielder. He stated that Liverpool’s financial situation is as such that they have to sell before luring the Spaniard.

Transfer: Man Utd ready to push to sign star with £55million clause – Report

Filtvedt further mentioned that Man United have held talks with the versatile midfielder but they consider his wage demands very high.

Last night, Bild also covered a story and claimed that the Red Devils have contacted the 29-year-old’s advisors but they have not been able to reach any agreement as yet.

As far as the transfer fee is concerned, last month the renowned German media outlet reported that the Bavarians are looking to get a fee of 40 million euros (£35.5million) from the sale of their prized asset.

Next year, Thiago will turn 30 and his contract with the Bundesliga champions will expire as well. Therefore, the mentioned asking price of £35.5million seems very high, especially taking into consideration that we are close to sealing the signing of 23-year-old Van de Beek for £40million (Sky Sports).

As far as the personal terms are concerned, last month, French outlet RMC Sport revealed that Liverpool have agreed a four year contract with the former Barcelona star and only need to agree a fee with Bayern to get his signing done.

So, why have we been unable to reach an agreement with Thiago? Is he asking higher wages just because we have a higher wage bill?

It must be remembered that at Anfield, the highest earning star is Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, who gets £200,000-a-week (The Mail). On the other hand, at Old Trafford, the top earner is David De Gea, who signed a deal worth £350,000-a-week last year (The Sun).

In your view, do Man Utd need to sign Thiago Alcantara even after luring Donny van de Beek?

  1. unfortunately MU have are turning into a “money-ball” recruiting club would rather buy 3-4 cheap players and hope we may get one good one. The few good ones we have and are all young we wont be able to afford them when they get into there best years in terms of football. target the players we want and pay the money. MU now play for positions 4,5 & 6 as we don’t have and wont have a top 3 team the way we operate our recruitment needs.
