Man Utd ready to push to sign star with £55million clause – Report

Dayot Upamecano

After Donny van de Beek, reports suggest that Man Utd are ready to push to sign an established central defender.

According to ESPN, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now prioritizing the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig as he wants to partner the Frenchman with Harry Magurie in the central defense.

Similarly, The Mail also covered a story yesterday and claimed that Man Utd are ready to try to secure the signing of the 21-year-old star, who is regarded as one of the top young defenders in the continent.

So, it is mentioned that the Red Devils will have to come up with a bid which is too good for the German side to turn down.

The Mail claim that the former Salzburg defender, who recently signed a new deal with the Bundesliga club, does not have a release clause for this summer. However, in July, the British source did report that he has got a release clause of £55million.

Media outlets like The Sun and Goal also reported about the existence of a release clause in Upamecano’s new deal.

The youngster had an impressive last season with Leipzig and few days back, he deservedly earned a call-up from the national side. Therefore, we can expect him to make his debut for the Les Bleus soon.

Former Premier League players Ferdinand and Jenas heavily praised Upamecano after his brilliant display in the Champions League quarter final vs Atletico Madrid.

The Old Trafford legend told BT Sport (via The Mail) that the French star was the best player against the Rojiblancos and he ‘manhandled’ a world class striker like Diego Costa.

In the last campaign, Lindelof did a very good job in the central defense with Maguire. Apart from the duo, Solskjaer also has center backs like Bailly, Jones, Smalling and Jones in the squad.

So, ideally, the Norwegian manager should look to lure a new CB only if he is able to sell someone. In your view, should Man Utd splash the cash to sign Dayot Upamecano?

  1. Sell Jones, Smalling and/or Bailly who have not been productive to the team. Its the high time authority is restored in this area.
