Man Utd make decision on signing £43m-£47m Liverpool target – Report

Old Trafford

Manchester United suffered yet another disappointing result in the Premier League against Bournemouth but that wasn’t a huge surprise considering the players no longer seem focussed on salvaging anything from the league and are rather driven by the chance of silverware in the Europa League.

The Red Devils have quite a difficult match on the horizon in the continental competition as facing Athletic Bilbao over two legs is unlikely to be an easy proposition.

News – Report – Man Utd clear to sign 11 goals/assists midfielder for free

The Basque club are well-drilled under former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde and have been in great form this campaign.

Meanwhile, despite playing for something this season, the Red Devils will also keep an eye on the upcoming transfer window where they will need to make potential reinforcements to take the squad to the next level. One player that the club were linked with a transfer for was Borussia Dortmund shot-stopper Gregor Kobel.

However, now, as per Caught Offside, Man Utd have made the decision to focus on other transfer targets for the goalkeeping position as Dortmund are demanding a significant fee of between £43m-£47m to part ways with their talented goalkeeper. United are wary of spending that kind of money.

Kobel has been excellent for Dortmund for the past couple of seasons but it has to be said that the German giants are not sure of a Champions League spot for the next season yet and this could prompt a sale from the club, especially if they fail to make it to the prestigious European competition.

Interest from the Premier League is said to be quite widespread, with clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea all keeping their eye on Kobel. Man Utd currently have Andre Onana as the starting goalkeeper but his performances have left a lot to be desired and an upgrade could be on the cards this summer.

If Man Utd want to make a brave signing like Kobel, they might have to sell Onana for a significant fee this summer. Apart from that, the Old Trafford outfit will also need to win the Europa League to offer Kobel Champions League football and that is quite a stretch considering the form they have been showing until now.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Kobel and how it plays out. With so much interest in him, a transfer could very much be on the cards but Man Utd might not be in the reckoning for the same. Only time will tell us how it develops.
