Man Utd moved in to sign £278,000-a-week playmaker – Decision made

Dembele and Griezmann Barcelona

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Manchester United have been interested in signing Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona.

According to Sport (news image provided below), the Catalan giants want to reduce their wage bill and are looking to sell the French international in the summer transfer window.

Transfer: Man Utd best placed to agree £45million fee to sign midfielder – Face competition

In such a scenario, the Spanish media outlet have mentioned that Man Utd moved in and possibly submitted an offer to sign the playmaker.

The Les Bleus star has made his decision. He is not prepared to try a new adventure in the Premier League and has made it clear that he will only leave the Nou Camp in order to return to Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann’s current contract with Barca will expire in 2024. Sport claim that if he does end up staying with the Spanish club then he would have to take a pay cut. At the moment, he is earning around 17 million euros per year i.e. £278,000-a-week.

The former Real Sociedad man struggled in his first season with Barcelona, but last term, he was impressive under the management of Ronald Koeman. The 30-year-old featured in 51 games in all competitions and directly contributed in 33 goals (20 goals and 13 assists).

The 94-capped World Cup winning star can play anywhere in the attacking third and has the quality and experience to improve the offense at Old Trafford.

However, having already splashed the cash on Jadon Sancho, it is highly unlikely that Ole would move to sign another attacking playmaker. Do you think Man Utd should further improve their attack?
