Man Utd have to agree £26m-£38m terms to sign midfielder after Casemiro horror show

Manchester United have some serious questions to answer in the aftermath of the annihilating 3-0 loss to Liverpool. The Reds of Merseyside ran circles around a shambolic Red Devils team at Old Trafford in what is a game that Erik ten Hag will want to forget.

The Dutch coach however isn’t the only one who would want to forget the game against Liverpool. Last night might have been football’s way of telling Casemiro that he is done at the top-most level and it’s time he moves elsewhere.

As the age-old adage goes, ‘leave football before football leaves you’. Right now, it feels like football has left the Brazilian at the highest stage. His performance in the first half against Liverpool cannot be expressed in words.

There was a point in the first half when it almost looked like the Real Madrid legend had given up. He misplaced a pass and did not even make an attempt to win it back, which is so unlike the Casemiro of old and the Casemiro that everyone fell in love with.

The silver lining from this game is that it allows Man Utd to recalibrate and sort out their priorities. One way to mitigate this could be to dip into the free agents market and sign someone experienced. This player could be Adrien Rabiot.

The Frenchman is looking for a contract worth around £26m – £38m over three seasons to sign for the Red Devils. He is a senior player with the experience of having played for one of the biggest countries in football and also for two top clubs – PSG and Juventus.

Casemiro looks all but done and cannot be relied upon in big games going forward. Although Man Utd have signed Manuel Ugarte, the Uruguayan is just 23 and him partnering a midfield with Kobbie Mainoo screams ‘inexperience’.

Rabiot might not be naturally defensive minded but what he has going for him is his adaptability. Didier Deschamps has even used the French veteran at left-back in the past which showcases his ability to use his defensive acumen.

Man Utd must make a move for the 29-year-old before it is too late and the international break offers the perfect opportunity for the same and let’s see if the club makes a move for Rabiot to address their midfield woes for the season.
