Manchester United are linked with several top midfielders and one of them is German international Leon Goretzka.
According to a recent report covered by Sport Bild (via Sport Witness), the negotiations between Bayern Munich and the midfielder are at a standstill and the Kaiser could end up leaving the Bundesliga champions this summer.
Transfer: From Italy – £51.6million star has agreed contract to join Manchester United
The German source have mentioned that the Bavarians are prepared to agree terms worth 10-12 million euros a season with the 26-year-old star. However, he is looking to earn around 20 million euros per year.
It is stated that Man Utd have moved in and offered him a big salary of more than 12 million euros a season (over £200,000-a-week) to hire his services on a bosman next year.
The story has been relayed today by Sport. The Spanish media outlet have claimed that the Red Devils have overtaken Real Madrid in the race to sign the former Schalke midfielder by offering a deal worth 230,000 euros per week.
Goretzka’s current contract with the 6-time European Champions will expire in less than 12 months and Sport claim that he is valued at 70 million euros (£60million).
The versatile star can play in multiple midfield roles but mainly, he is a creative central midfielder. Last season, he featured in 32 games in all competions under Hansi Flick and directly contributed in 17 goals (8 goals and 9 assists).
For the German national side, so far, he has netted 14 goals and provided 4 assists. The 35-capped international won the 2017 Confederations Cup under the management of Joachim Low and was the (joint) top scorer in the competition (3 goals).
At the Euro 2020, he scored the decisive goal for his country vs Hungary (group stage) to earn them a place in the KO stages of the competition. The 4-time World Cup winners were eliminated by England in the Round of 16.
Man Utd need to strengthen their midfield this summer. In your view, should they splash the cash to sign Leon Goretzka?
