Manchester United have many issues in the current squad that need addressing but one position where they are relatively well sorted is the goalkeeping department.
With Andre Onana as the starter and Altay Bayindir providing backup, things can’t look more settled.

However, the Turkish international isn’t going to be happy staying number two for too long. Bayindir will want regular game time to improve in his career but that is unlikely to happen any time soon, considering Onana’s form.
Against Tottenham, Manchester United have to thank Onana for ensuring that they lost the game only 3-0. If not for the Cameroonian’s heroics and Timo Werner’s wastefulness in front of goal, Tottenham could have put 7 or 8 past a hapless Red Devils defence.
Now, as per The Sun, Man Utd are planning to raid lower league team Sunderland in a shock move for Anthony Patterson to sign for the club and come to Old Trafford which would see him be the understudy to Andre Onana.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper’s arrival could see Bayindir leave, as expected. The backup keeper role in big clubs is almost always a rotational position that sees players come and go every two or three seasons and United might be coming to the end of the cycle with respect to the Turkish international.
Anthony Patterson could cost Man Utd around £20m, which is what Sunderland value him at. He has interest from the likes of Crystal Palace and Liverpool but all aforementioned clubs can only offer a reserve role to the England U-21 international.
However, this provides Patterson with the platform to come to the Premier League where if he gets the opportunity, he can show what he is about.
Being a reserve goalkeeper is all about being patient – just ask Emi Martinez and let’s see if Man Utd finalize a deal for him.
