According to Sport, Man Utd are prepared to press to finally secure the signing of De Jong in the next transfer window.
The Catalan outlet have mentioned that the arrival of the Netherlands midfielder would be a mega signing for Erik ten Hag, who is willing to make an effort again to lure his compatriot to Old Trafford.
After beating arch rivals, Real Madrid, at the weekend, the 25-year-old star was asked whether he would join Manchester United in the summer and he did not completely rule out a move. The former Ajax man stated:
“No, I don’t think so. You never know of course. But I’m very happy in Barcelona.”
The the £320,000 a week star (The Mirror) has been highly influential under the management of Xavi and should be able to earn his first La Liga title this term as Barca have a 12-point lead at the top.
Sport claim De Jong knows the option to move to United is open. Moreover, it is stated that the consistently improving English team and the presence of Ten Hag could convince him to join.
