Man Utd press to finally close signing of £158,000 a week star – Report

Memphis Depay - The Netherlands

Memphis Depay proved to be a flop in the Premier League for Manchester United but surprisingly, he is linked with a move back to Old Trafford.

Last summer, Sport revealed the Red Devils were interested in luring the Netherlands international. However, he ended up staying with Barcelona.

Transfer: Man Utd make contact, told £43m would get signing done – Terms were agreed last summer

Now, the famous Spanish news source have reported that Man Utd are pressing to finally close the signing of the 28-year-old forward in the winter transfer window.

It is stated that after offloading Ronaldo, United are looking to lure two forwards and a midfielder and they have already started working to complete the capture of Depay from the Blaugrana.

The former PSV Eindhoven started 20 games in the La Liga last season but since the arrival of Xavi, he has mainly warmed the bench.

Barca lured Lewandowski last summer and the signing of the Polish superstar has dropped Depay further down the pecking order and needs to leave to play week in and week out.

In the current campaign, he has only started 2 games in all competitions and spent a considerable amount of time on the treatment table.

The 82-capped international is currently in Qatar for the World Cup and featured for 28 minutes in the 2-0 victory over Senegal.

The Dutchman, who earns around £158,000 a week (The Sun), only scored 7 goals in 53 appearances during his time at Old Trafford.

Have your say – Should Man Utd splash the cash to bring him back in the winter transfer window?
