One of the unsung heroes of Spain’s triumphant run in the European Championships earlier this month, Dani Olmo is looking to leave RB Leipzig in the summer and make a much-deserved transfer to a top club in Europe.
We covered a story that Man Utd had ‘positioned’ themselves to secure the signing of the La Roja attacking midfielder. Barcelona had also expressed their interest in signing Olmo, considering he has already been a part of their famed La Masia academy.
Transfer: Report – Man Utd agree £15m-£20m fee, contract done to secure signing
The former Zagreb playmaker had a release clause in his contract of around £50.6m (60 million euros) which expired five days after the Euros but the Bundesliga club would still sell the player leave should any interested club match the valuation, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
As per today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona were the first club to make an offer for Olmo, submitting a proposal worth around initial €40m [€10m to be paid for the next four years] and other variables that would take the deal up to €60m (£50.6m) in total.
However, Leipzig want the payment conditions to be improved and Olmo would like his future resolved before 9th August, which is the date set for him to return to training with the Bundesliga side.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are ready to agree ‘lucrative’ terms and have offered more than the Spanish giants to sign Olmo this summer.
MD add both Man City and Bayern Munich have also submitted proposals that will make the player earn more than what the Catalan club can offer, but the 26-year-old’s top priority is to move to the Nou Camp.
One thing that Man Utd or any other club would have in mind is that the longer these negotiations play out, the better will be Barcelona’s chances of landing their ex-starlet. The emotional connection is likely to play a role in the transfer.
Barcelona are not financially blessed at the moment and need to resort to different payment structures to convince a club to sell. This is clearly reflected in their first bid to RB Leipzig although most first bids are usually made to test the water.
Despite Man Utd’s supposedly more ‘lucrative’ offer, this doesn’t seem a realistic target for the club to pursue. Ideally, we would be better off looking at other transfer targets this summer. What do you think?
It will be incredibly great if United sign Olmo
