Manchester United are ready to bid £25m less than the asking fee to sign Branthwaite, as per reports in the British media.

The Red Devils have let in 58 goals in the Premier League with just one game to go and the first thing they must do in the summer is reinforce the backline.

According to a recent story published by The Daily Mail, Man Utd are prepared to offer a fee of £55m to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.

The 21-year-old has three years left on his contract with the Toffees, who want to keep him but may have to sell to stay within profit and sustainability rules.

He has been the leader of the Merseysiders’ backline this season and they value him at around £80m

Therefore, if Man Utd offer £55m i.e. £25m less than the asking fee for Branthwaite, then it might not come as any surprise to see Everton turn the bid down.

In the current campaign, so far, the former Carlisle United central defender has made 34 appearances in the Premier League and under Sean Dyche.

Branthwaite has helped the Goodison Park outfit keep 12 clean sheets in the PL, moreover, he has also found the net on 3 occasions.

He was part of the England U-21 squad that won the Euros last year without conceding a single goal. Now, he is in contention to feature for the senior national side at the European Championships this year.

Have your say – Should Man Utd sign Jarrad Branthwaite to strengthen the defense at Old Trafford?
